The Girl is singing to the River

The Hebrew poet Shaul Tchernichovsky coined the phrase 'the person is not but the shape of his landscape'. The geographical environment in which a person lives and in which a society develops influences the habits, customs, and culture. The external landscape is reflected in the inner aspect of the people who live among it.
Here in Graz Duchan focused on the water element and explored the Mur river in order to figure out how this specific shape of water affects the society around.
The Mur river is part of the border between Austria and Slovenia. It flows into the Drava River, which connects to the Danube which ends up flowing into the Black Sea. This route has endless movement in one direction, it connects but also separates, constitutes a path of movement, bringing with it goods, energy, and life. In the exhibition "The Girl is Singing to the River" Duchan, now Styria-Artist-in-Recidence will present her artworks which developed during her stay in Graz, works that drew inspiration from the river, influenced by it and singing for him a song.
Hadas Duchan is an Israeli artist who lives and works in Jerusalem. She is influenced by biological and physical phenomena and examines the relationship, effect, and tension between them and the mental structure of the person and society in which she lives. Her works have been featured in many galleries and museums including The Museum of the History of Jerusalem in Tower of David, Barbur Gallery, Koresh14, Binyamin Gallery.
